Spotting AF, Stopping stroke
Patients who have a score of at least two on the CHA2DS2-Vasc scale; for example have had a stroke/TIA or are 75 years or older are provided with a Zenicor-ECG to take regular ECGs several times a day for about two-four weeks.
Studies show that Zenicor-ECG identifies previously undiagnosed silent atrial fibrillation in up to 15% of patients depending on the length of the investigation and the patient group.
Every day 80 people in the UK have a stroke due to undiagnosed or untreated atrial fibrillation. This causes great suffering and costs healthcare millions of pounds each year. Zenicor-ECG can identify these atrial fibrillations and with the correct treatment, a large number of strokes can be prevented
Four times more effective than Holter
Patients suffering from symptoms of an irregular heart rhythm, e.g. palpitations, dizziness, fatigue or pre-syncope get a Zenicor-ECG from the hospital.
When a patient experiences symptoms, they press start on the device, then place their thumbs on the electrodes. When the reading has been taken, the patient sends the ECG reading to a central ECG database at the touch of a button. The patient’s readings are stored in the database and the doctor can easily determine what the patient is suffering from.
Studies show that this method of detecting paroxysmal intermittent cardiac arrhythmias is four times more effective than Holter-ECG, the most common method of diagnosing arrhythmias today.
Zenicor-ECG used at paediatric cardiology clinics
Zenicor-ECG is currently used at more than 50 paediatric cardiology clinics in the Nordic region and Germany.
The advantage of Zenicor-ECG is its ease-of-use. No fixed chest electrodes need to be operated in. The patient can easily take Zenicor-ECG with them to school or sports activities. After a hospital visit, the patient takes the device home with them for as long an investigation period as is necessary – sometimes several months. The likelihood of detecting arrhythmias increases significantly when the length of the investigation period can be extended.
Arrhythmia investigation easier than ever
Arrhythmias can be difficult to detect and diagnose because they can consist of very short episodes that come and go and in many cases they could be completely without symptoms, which is why Zenicor-ECG is a uniquely effective method.
The simplicity and convenience for the patient means that the investigation with Zenicor-ECG can be performed during a longer time period which gives an effective diagnosis without generating loads of data that need analysing. A clinically verified method with proven efficacy and simplicity.
